The Danger of Driving on Icy Roadways in Texas

Air will warm faster than the pavement, so just because your thermometer says it is above freezing, the ice may still be on the road. Black ice is a serious concern in these conditions, and it is hard to see and may just look like water. Be sure that you avoid driving during the evening or in the early morning. These are usually the coldest parts of the day, and low visibility just makes the situation more dangerous. 

If you start to feel your vehicle is floating while driving, never slam on the brakes. This will cause you to go into a skid. Slowly take your foot off the gas. The best thing you can do is to avoid getting on the road. It is never worth risking your life. If you have to hit the road, just stay patient, take your time, and drive slowly. Allow more aggressive drivers to pass and continue on your way.
